FREQUENCY OF THROMBOCYTOPENIA IN CONFIRMED CASES OF MALARIA IN CHILDREN

Objective: To determine the frequency of thrombocytopenia in confirmed cases malaria children
 Methods: This cross sectional study was conducted Pediatric Department Mayo Hospital Lahore from January to June 2018. A total 80 Children between two years- 12 years age, both genders with were included by non-probability consecutive sampling. blood sample taken within 48 hours admission and their complete count reviewed for presence after on positive peripheral smear. Thrombocytopenia defined as platelet less than 150,000/µl blood. All collected data entered analyzed SPSS version 22. Data stratified age gender address effect modifiers. Presence presented frequencies percentages.
 Results: Out patients malarial parasite (MP) slide, 65 (81.25%)were Plasmodium Vivax,12(15%) Falciparum while 3 (3.75%) Mixed infection. 44 patients( 55%)were having low (less 150,000/µl) 36 patients(45%) had no thrombocytopenia. thrombocytopenia, 16 (20%) mild 21 (26.3%) moderate 7 (8.8%) severe There significant association or duration malaria. 
 Conclusions: Frequency children is 55% hence; febrile can raise possibility leading early diagnosis management.
